2014 U.S. Coal Mine Methane Conference

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Coalbed Methane Outreach Program (CMOP) invites you to join us in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2014 U.S. Coal Mine Methane (CMM) Conference in November this year. The conference will be held at the historic Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh from November 18-20th.

Returning to Pittsburgh for the first time since 2008, the U.S. CMM Conference is the only national conference focusing solely on mine methane capture and use.  Participants will hear from industry leaders and experts on the latest technology, policy, market and legal developments affecting the U.S. and international mine methane industries at coal and non-coal mines.

This year’s conference will be especially timely because of the April 2014 adoption of the Mine Methane Capture (MMC) protocol by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) as part of its Cap-and-Trade program.  The Protocol is already generating significant interest in CMM projects, and is expected to spur increased development of mine methane projects throughout the U.S.

Other important topics that will be covered during the conference include:

  • President’s Climate Action Plan and Strategy to Reduce Methane Emissions
  • Mine methane resources and existing mine methane capture projects in the U.S.
  • Important legal and regulatory developments impacting the coal industry and mine methane projects
  • Best practices for mine methane capture and use
  • Applicable technologies for mine gas management and use
  • Project development, economics and finance
  • Integration of mine methane use or destruction with mine operations including the perspective of coal mine operators
  • International CMM developments

The CMM Conference also offers a unique opportunity to network with U.S. Government agencies, state government representatives, U.S. coal companies, technology suppliers and service providers, and project developers.

We look forward to welcoming you to Pittsburgh in November for this exciting event.
